Where it fits: denture → overdenture → fixed full-arch

Think of three steps, from most economical to most permanent. The overdenture is the middle step — dramatically more stable than a plain denture, at a fraction of the cost of fixed teeth.

A lower denture, which has the least natural suction, benefits most from implants.

How we decide with you

  • An overdenture when you want a big jump in stability without the cost of fixed teeth — especially on the lower jaw.
  • Fixed full-arch when you’d rather nothing came out and your bone (or grafting) supports it.
  • Convert your current denture when it’s in good shape and can accept attachments — saving you the cost of a new one.
  • A new overdenture when your current one is worn or won’t fit the attachments well.
  • Fewer implants to start when budget matters — we’ll tell you honestly what a lower overdenture on fewer implants gives up in stability, and plan so more can be added later.

What to expect, step by step

  1. Complimentary consult & 3D scan. We check your bone and your current denture, and lay out your options with an itemized price.
  2. Implant placement. Dr. Dillon places the implants in-office with 3D guidance and sedation available.
  3. Healing. The implants integrate over a few months; you keep wearing a denture in the meantime.
  4. Attachments fitted. We adapt your denture — or fit a new overdenture — with the snap-in attachments.
  5. Snap-in & go. You leave with a denture that stays put, plus simple care instructions.
  6. Maintenance. The small nylon inserts wear over time and are replaced periodically at your checkups.

Common misconceptions

  • “It’s just a denture with glue.” No adhesive — it mechanically snaps onto implants and holds firmly.
  • “More implants is always better.” The 3D scan sets the right number for your bone; more isn’t automatically better.
  • “I need fixed teeth to eat well.” An overdenture already restores most chewing strength, especially on the lower jaw.
  • “It never needs maintenance.” The attachment inserts wear and are replaced periodically — a simple, low-cost step.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many implants does a snap-in denture need?

We usually plan four per jaw, upper or lower. Fewer is possible in the lower jaw, and we’ll tell you when that is a reasonable choice for your bone and budget — but more support means a steadier denture and less wear on the attachments. The 3D scan settles the number.

Can my current denture be converted to snap in?

Sometimes, if it's in good condition and the fit allows attachment housings. We'll tell you at the consult whether conversion is realistic or a new overdenture would serve you better.

Overdenture vs. fixed All-on-X — which should I choose?

An overdenture snaps in and comes out for cleaning, uses fewer implants, and costs less; a fixed All-on-X stays in permanently and feels most like natural teeth, at a higher cost. It comes down to your budget and whether you want removable or fixed. We'll compare both honestly for your case.

How much does an implant-supported denture cost?

It depends on the number of implants, whether you need extractions or a new overdenture, and the attachment system. Your consultation is complimentary and ends with an itemized, all-in figure before anything begins.

Does it hurt to get the implants?

Most patients find it far easier than expected. Placement is 3D-guided and done with the area numb, with sedation available. Expect mild soreness for a few days.

How do I care for a snap-in denture?

Clean the denture and the attachments daily and keep the implants and gums healthy at your checkups. The small nylon inserts in the attachments wear over time and are replaced periodically — a simple, low-cost maintenance step.

How long does the process take?

After the implants are placed, they usually need a few months to integrate before the denture is fitted to snap in. We'll give you the timeline for your case at the consult.
